Submission guidelines for the MBFA 2nd Annual "Wild about Watercolor" Show

October 16-November 21, 2020

The last day for submissions was Saturday, October 31.

The exhibit features works on paper or board using water media in the spirit of watercolor painting, e.g. watercolor, gouache, pen with some ink using a brush.  All are eligible to enter this competition. The rewards? Fame, notoriety, and super great prizes.*

*Prizes include super great gift certificates for local businesses.

Wild about Watercolor started as an online exhibit (with online voting).  With the help of the same three judges from last year the show transitioned to the physical MBFA gallery walls in the first week of November.

Interested in participating next year!?

There were no age or residency restrictions for participation in this show, find more details for submissions below.

We think you can do an entry submission in, like, 10 minutes or so.  To make a piece that will win a prize will take longer.
To submit an entry for Wild about Watercolor you need to:
1. Send us an email with confirmation of your interest, your physical mailing address (so we can send you your prize), and your phone number.
2. Submit your work by October 31st.  You can use our online submission form to submit a digital image of your piece.  Our system is happiest with digital files of at least 1200px wide.
To see what the submission form looks like, and for some tips on filling it out, have a look at the image attached on the left.
OR, you may bring your piece into the gallery so we can scan your piece for entry in the online exhibit.  MBFA is open Fridays 10-5 and Saturdays 10-3.
The online exhibit (mbrownfa.com) will allow viewers to vote online for favorites in six categories:

  • Overall favorite
  • Most original
  • Most flamboyant
  • Most communicative
  • Most atmospheric
  • Most technically accomplished

Jennifer Brown, Matthew Greenway, and Stephanie Reininger, who helped us judging last year’s show, have agreed to help manage the awarding of prizes* again this year, in conjunction with the online voting results.

*Prizes were super popular last year, and this year’s prizes will be as good or better!

In early November, the walls of the MBFA gallery will display the winners of each category and any entries meeting these requirements:

a) you wish to exhibit your piece at MBFA (optional; not necessary to enter this competition), and

b) at least two of the three judges agree they’d like to see your piece in the gallery exhibition.

Watercolor offers unique opportunities for spontaneity and immediate expression . . . have fun and have at it!
