About the Show:
Our 8th Annual Wild About Watercolor show runs from September 18 to November 14. This show is open to submissions from artists outside our usual Lyme/Thetford residency requirement.
The “Meet the Artists" party will be on Friday, October 23rd from 5-7pm with punch and snacks. Expect a convivial gathering. We hope you attend!
Its focus is the exploration of the wonderful world of water-based media, especially watercolor. In addition to the in-person show, WAW work will also be displayed on the MBFA website.
Submission Information: The last day to submit work for Wild about Watercolor 2026 is noon on September 17th, but the sooner the better, as we will be installing the show that day.
Our gallery is open Fridays from 10-5 and Saturdays from 10-3 for drop offs. Special arrangements can be made for drop offs at times the gallery is not open. Email us at mattbrownfineart@gmail.com.
To have work in the show, ideally you will fill out a Submission Form online or a paper copy in person when you drop off your work or beforehand. You may submit up to 3 pieces. The form asks for digital images of your submission, if you are able to manage it. Ideal file size between 1 and 1.5 mb.
- Acceptable mediums: Watercolor; gouache; acrylic; acrylic mediums and watercolor mediums; ink; casein; egg tempera
- (No photo copies, color laser prints, multiple prints, pastels or computer generated work.)
- Open to any artist age 12 or older
- Limit: 3 paintings per artist (they may not all be included)
- Size Limitation: 40" in any direction, based on outside measurement of frame.
- Work should be framed and ready to hang. Framing may be available here at the Gallery - speak to Matt.
- We prefer work that is for sale. MBFA takes a 40% commission.

We will again be awarding prizes (gift certificates for local businesses) in these six categories:
- Most Original
- Most Flamboyant
- Most Communicative
- Most Atmospheric
- Most Technically Accomplished
- Overall Favorite
Winners are based on the results of voting, online or in the gallery. Voting will take place in the week preceding the party (Oct. 17- 23).
Lastly, we plant to do another “art scavenger hunt" of sorts, and the winner of that will also win a prize. Stay tuned for details.
